Hello everyone!!! A little update on my life is that I am currently studying for my MCAT that I will be taking at the end of May! Right after my test, I will be leaving to study abroad in Greece for two weeks. I am planning on going right into medical school and specializing in trauma orthopedics and sports medicine :)
My research in the locomotion lab has led me into loving trauma ortho even more! As of right now I have chosen my area of concentration for my senior comp. I will be looking into whether the different types of ACL reconstruction grafts affect post-recovery knee flexion in college-aged women. I will be comparing participants with patellar tendon, hamstring, and cadaver grafts and measuring their knee flexion based off of a drop jump test. This will be done by videotaping participants and then using software to measure the different angles in the knee to determine if the different grafts play a role in post-recovery flexion. There is no clear answer on what the "best" graft choice is, so I am hoping to continue working on this throughout my career. So far I have been working on my literature review along with exploring how I am going to set up my data collection! Hi everyone! Since my last blog post I have been up to a lot. I am currently in my last semester at Saint Mary’s and have wrapped up most of my senior comprehensive project.
Last weekend I presented my senior comp presentation on how landing surface can impact the ACL. I am working on finishing up my paper and making final edits before submitting later this month. Presenting my work was very nerve wracking, but also really fun. I was surrounded by a lot of my friends which made it very special, and I loved hearing about my classmates work as well. I am extremely grateful for everyone in the locomotion lab for their help with my project, especially Dr. Young for all of her support. I would not have gotten through my senior comp without them! I am starting to get all my resources and things I need to start the process of applying to PA school, which is very scary, but I am excited to begin to take this next step. Additionally, I am going through the interview process with a couple hospitals for working there in my gap year between undergrad and grad school. I cannot believe my time at Saint Mary’s is almost done, but I am so excited for the next chapter of my life! |
