Hey again, it’s me, Kamryn! I’m now a Senior working on my comp project with Dr. Young. This past summer Dr. Young, Hannah, and myself completed 10 weeks of field research on Saint Mary’s College campus. My study specifically focused on the fox squirrel population. We trapped squirrels on campus and recorded various measurements. My comp focuses on body mass trends between female and male fox squirrels. I found no statistical difference in scaled body mass and body condition between females and males. I had so much fun working with Hannah and Dr. Young. I learned so much about the patience of field work, the process of running analyses, and building professionalism. In January, we are presenting at the SICB conference in Austin, TX, which will give us a chance to spread our passion to even more biologists. We hope this project extends far into the future so that we can build a long-term profile for seasonal body mass trends in fox squirrels. Until then, don’t feed our test subjects!!
