Hey everyone! So much has been happening since I introduced myself. Thanks to the Neuhoff grant I conducted my research over the summer (2021) with Dr. Young, Dr. Kloepper, Valerie Eddington (SMC researcher in Kloepper's lab), and Adrienne Calistri-Yeh (a visiting researcher from Northwestern University). I got to work on Valerie and Adrienne's projects as well which was really cool. My project was looking at the difference in relative tail lengths between male and female fox squirrels on campus. Analysis of the data we collected showed significant differences (YAY!). Females on average had a 7.7% increase in relative tail length compared to males. I got to present my research at fall poster day and will soon be presenting at the inauguration research symposium! I am very excited for this opportunity and hope it will help me increase my confidence while presenting as I prepare for SICB 2022! Hello again! A lot has happened since we last spoke. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Mohra Anderson and I am a senior Kinesiology major in Dr. Young’s locomotion lab. Since last May, I have been putting up posters, speaking in classes, and recruiting participants for my research. More specifically, I have been reaching out to string musicians in the Saint Mary’s, Holy Cross, Notre Dame, and South Bend communities. For my senior comprehensive research, I am focusing on the muscle activity of the shoulder in string musicians. Dr. Young and I have plans to set up the electromyography systems next week and learn how to use the cameras for the study. After that, data collection can begin! It looks like I will have a good number of participants, and I am looking forward to putting my proposed research methods into action!
I am also looking into several different ideas for grad school, such as PT or veterinary school. Senior year is already filled with so much business and excitement. :) Until next time! |
