Since August I’ve been fairly busy with my project. I’ve started working on some of my statistics. I have calculated the residuals of the raw data, but I still have to do the rest of the analysis. I hope to get started on in the next week or so; I’m meeting with one of my committee members this week to talk through the details of how to do an ANCOVA and interpret the results. I’ve been slowly making edits to my paper, so that as soon as I have my stats completed and results interpreted, it’ll be ready to go to committee. Overall my project is coming along nicely and I’m excited to finish it up. Also, my paper I wrote for UNDERC has been posted on the UNDERC website! Here’s the link to check all the student projects from UNDERC east: https://underc.nd.edu/resources/student-projects-archive/ This past month I have also participated in some scientific outreach opportunities. I volunteered at an event at Bendix Woods Park called Rockin’ Reptiles, where kids and families in the community came to learn about reptiles. There were lots of activities and crafts set up. Another Saint Mary’s student and I worked at a reptile button making booth next to the Potawatomi Zoo’s animal presentation area, which I of course visited when there was finally a break in the button making. I also participated in a summer research panel at Saint Mary’s where I and several other students in STEM answered questions about our summer research and internship experiences and gave advice on finding and applying for summer opportunities like the one I had at UNDERC. Hopefully as the semester progresses, more fun opportunities like these will come along as I finish up my comp. Talking about UNCERC experience at SCORE Research and Internship Panel.
