Hi, it’s Hannah again with another update! I’m in my last semester at Saint Mary’s and in the lab so a lot of things are wrapping up and a lot of exciting new things are starting! The deadlines for my grad school applications are all over the place, so some aren’t even submitted yet but I’ve already been accepted to one! Earlier this month I got to go to Austin, TX to attend SICB’s annual meeting and present my poster. I had an incredible time; it was definitely one of the highlights of my research experience. I got to meet lots of other researchers from other undergraduate students attending their first conference to experienced Ph.D.’s who’ve been running their own lab for years. It was a really inspiring thing to be surrounded so many other people who were all so excited about scientific research and the discovery of new knowledge. It really affirmed my decision to pursue this path myself. Check out the slideshow below! One of the best parts of this experience was the plenary talk by Sheila Patek; her explanation of her emphatic love for discovering new knowledge, of the joy she found in starting with a question and then working to discover that answer, closely paralleled my own experience this summer of falling in love with doing research. I would highly recommend that any undergraduate interested in research who has the opportunity to attend a scientific conference do so because it has been one of the highlights of my collegiate experience! Now I am looking forward to presenting at Belle Bio Days at the end of February, finishing this last semester at Saint Mary’s, and graduating in May! Comments are closed.
